Avatar

In a 22nd century where Earth is a toxic ruin, Jake, a paraplegic ex-marine, is thrust into an elaborate scheme to mine an exotic planet for its rare and valuable natural resources. Walking in his Avatar—a body genetically designed to look like the blue-skinned, 10 foot tall Na’vi, Pandora’s alien inhabitants, Jake finds himself drawn into their tranquil way of life. But the Na’vi are only peaceful until provoked. As human encroachment threatens their pristine environment, they become ferocious warriors dedicated to defending their existence. Soon, Jake must choose sides between the Consortium he serves and the new friends he wants to protect.

Avatar: A Confidential Report on the Biological and Social History of Pandora provides a comprehensive look into the secrets the Consortium doesn’t want you to know—classified secrets about Pandora’s flora and fauna, and the technology used to plunder them—as depicted in the spectacular motion picture, Avatar. Shot in 3D with both live-action and virtual cameras, the film uses an innovative technology combining computer generated imagery and live-action footage developed by Academy Award-winning director, producer and screenwriter, James Cameron. Full color illustrations throughout.

It's a wonderful book and I am happy and proud to own it, but it didn't have in it what I was hoping for. I wanted close-up pictures of the beautiful Na'vi stars and more pictures of the fantastic scenery. The narration was powerful and wonderfully written. I want more. Please make another Pandora book.

Essentially a catalog of Pandora
March 28, 2010

Essentially this book is a catalog of all things Pandora including the flora and fauna of the planet as well as the technology of the invading humans. The descriptions fill in the details of those plants, animals and vehicles. For die-hard Avatar fans and curiosity-seekers.

Not a bad book
March 23, 2010

After reading some of the other reviews, I had to add my two cents. I absolutely loved the movie and felt compelled to order this book. I'm kinda nerdy when it comes to books like this so I felt it was wonderful. I love reading the "back story" of things and the details that couldn't be explained very well in the movie were covered here. When I get the chance to see the movie again, this book will help fill in those gaps. If you're not a lover of small, fine details (how to manuals), this is not for you if not for the pictures alone. But I absolutely loved that it was presented as a "smuggled" document from Pandora.

Not the story!
March 15, 2010

I bought this thinking that it was the novel (is there one?). I really like the movie, but wanted to read the story, not the background material, however good it might be. For background material this is entertaining; typos add verisimilitude and the photos are very good. I'm not sorry I have it now, but was terribly disappointed when I opened the box. Is there a novel published? I'd have given it more stars, but felt the book club description was very misleading.

Lacking
March 11, 2010

I thought this would be better than it turned out to be. While I enjoyed the articles about the animal life on Pandora, typos run rampant throughout the book like angry centipedes. I cannot recommend this book to anyone except for die-hard fans of the film.
