Gabby

Few people will forget January 8, 2011, the day Gabrielle Giffords was shot by a deranged gunman while addressing her constituents at an Arizona Safeway. The tragedy riveted millions of Americans, as will Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope.

The popular congresswoman and husband, Mark Kelly, collaborated with renowned author Jeffrey Zaslow to take readers inside the hospital rooms and speech therapy sessions where Gabby fought to regain her life. But it is, perhaps, the love story between the congresswoman and Mark Kelly—an astronaut and American hero in his own right—that makes this book so extraordinarily moving. Theirs is a story of public service, risk-taking, romance—and a journey toward recovery that is inspirational.

Unlike some of the other reviews, I found this book inspirational to read. Heroes come in many different forms and Gabby's strength and determination, as well as her husbands, puts them both into the hero category. There are some chapters in the beginning that seem out of place, (I was more interested in Gabby's life then that of her husband) but once you get through that then the book starts to live. I'm sure I will revisit this bokk many times in the future.

What About the Other Victims??
November 27, 2011

I don't consider "Gabby" a hero. When does getting shot make you that? What about the other people who were wounded and died? Aren't they heroes too? I don't really know why but I just don't care for this woman though I am sorry she got shot. Also, what was her husband supposed to do - leave her? He had to stay with her for appearances. I wonder how long their love story will last once all the attention dies down?
