“If Jacques Pépin tells you this is the way to make an omelet—or to roast a chicken, then for me, the matter is settled. As with all his works, this is a vital, essential volume that should live in your kitchen forever. Nobody knows more or does it better,” says Anthony Bourdain. He’s just one of many culinary luminaries singing Essential Pépin’s praises—and with the wealth of classic recipes that can be made completely from-scratch or by using shortcut ingredients it’s easy to see why. Even better, Pépin demonstrates the basic techniques needed to make his favorite recipes on the included 3-hour DVD. Covering anything and everything you’d ever want to cook and eat, this is essential reading for home cooks. Pépin’s own drawings.

Wonderful recipes. This is a book to keep close by. Pepin take's French food and makes them as simple as possible. Really big book with a ton of recipe's to keep you busy loving every recipe. If a certain procedure is called for he has a little highlighted area off to the side on how to do it in a simple way. Really good book that belongs next to your American everything under the sun cookbooks.

I have been watching "Essential Pepin" on PBS for a while and couldn't wait to get my hands on the book. When it came, I used it almost immediately for his beef tenderloin recipe and have been constantly using it since. His homemade fries are quick and so much better than frozen. The book is well worth the price especially with the DVD of visual how-to's that comes with it.

Jacques Pepin is a culinary icon and this book (with DVD!!!) does him justice. I've made a handful of recipes and each was a success. Cookbook aside, this is an incredible resource book that I know I'll be reviewing regularly.

Agree with other reviewer. Great book, nice size, soft cover I was shocked at how big this book is and the pictures are great. I love to watch the Chef on cable, so I can recommend all of his books. Very interesting and some easy recipes.
