Precious Jones is obese, HIV-positive and living in a physically and sexually abusive household. At 16, she’s pregnant by her father—again. Aside from heartache, she has nothing but a fierce determination to break free of her parents and change her life. She starts by enrolling in a GED program, where she meets the tireless Blue Rain. Much more than a literacy teacher, Miss Rain shows Precious how to read and write, but also encourages her to keep a journal—which becomes the vehicle readers have to experience Precious' horrendous beginnings and miraculous transformation. An urban classic, Push is intense, heartbreaking and frightening—a remarkable story that will continue to haunt and inspire you long after you’ve put it down.

Just didn't like this book. The grammar made it hard to read. One of my least favorite reads.

The book's grammar was a little hard to understand. It had some good spots; however, I enjoyed the movie "Precious" better than the book.

I really don't know what to say about this book. I did like that it was done in the way that Precious actually talked, but at times it felt that it was a little overdone.
Not for the faint at heart.

Ok people, from the prior reviews I saw that many of you didn't like the book. But that is why the author wrote it the way she did, from Precious' point of view. I also saw the movie before reading the book, both were good. Truth hurts, I'm glad it wasn't sugarcoated. I was one of many that was abused as a child. The movie really made the book come alive. The movie was raw and emotional for me; I felt like Precious all over again. Even though this was a fictional book, lots of children are being abused by family members everyday. I'm so glad I didn't let the pain and anguish consume me. I would not have been able to love myself and others if I didn't let the bitterness go. For those going through it, IT'S NOT YOUR FAULT! Tell someone you trust, keep a journal, get counseling. Time heals all wounds. Spoken from a survivor that's been there!
