In the space of just a few short months, life has become a thing of great confusion for 16-year-old Ethan Poe—a complicated hodgepodge of facts, theories and hypotheses. These are the certainties: His parents are divorcing, his older brother’s behavior is becoming increasingly erratic and his best friend is turning into some kind of religious zealot.
These are the uncertainties: His mixed feelings about his father, and a paradoxical want to both blend in and stand out in his rural Maine hometown. Most troubling of all is his attraction to Max Modine, a boy he wants to know a great deal better than he does.
Despite his initial reluctance, Ethan gets pulled into an extremely heated debate regarding Intelligent Design and its place in science classrooms. The school has become a ferocious battleground as friends and family turn against each other. If Ethan finds the courage to become who he’s meant to be, the outcome could be quite extraordinary.
Robin Reardon’s The Evolution of Ethan Poe is a wonderfully original coming-of-age story about unbreakable bonds, irrefutable truths, discovering who you are and deciding when it's time to take a stand.
