Set in the turbulent 1960s, David Halperin’s wonderful debut novel, Journal of a UFO Investigator, tells the story of a teenage loner and self-proclaimed UFO investigator from a small town near Philadelphia. Danny Shapiro is a boy with considerable problems. First, he's deeply in love with his best friend's girl. Second, his mother is dying.
Third? It seems that someone has broken into the house and stolen Danny's book about his encounter with the "Three Men in Black." Soon, he’s up to his ears in paranormal investigators, mysterious aliens and flying spacecraft. This coming-of-age story poses questions about the real and imagined, and suggests fusing the two might be the only way to survive adolescence.

I grew up during the Blue Book era, where everything was investigated and given a plausable denial. We have to be crazy to think we are the only life in this universe. I enjoyed this book, its characters, and the that mysterious book everyone seemed to be chasing. Who knows maby the men in Black do exist. Has our Government told us all we need to know about visitors from another world? Klaatu Bradda Nicto!

So disappointed with this book. Hated the main character; he was so *boring*. No personality. The best friend was overly arrogant and annoying. Not worth it.
