The Host

She's the #1 bestselling author of the Twilight series. Now Stephenie Meyer offers a new twist on the love triangle—one that involves only two bodies—in The Host, a captivating novel of romance and terror. The war of the worlds has ended, and we lost. The Earth has been overrun by invading alien intelligences who occupy the bodies of the planet’s inhabitants. But Wanderer, the invading “soul” who has been given Melanie Stryder’s body, has discovered that the former tenant of her body refuses to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man she loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer searches for a man she’s never met....

Once again...
November 07, 2009

...Meyer has written an exciting, addictive story, but still there are moments when I wanna strangle her because of her overused dialogue tags and sap. So, part of me wants to give this another star (maybe two more stars), but the literary-minded part of me just can't allow it...yet.

Very Mormon Orientation
November 07, 2009

I found this novel entertaining; however, having grown up in southern Idaho where another student and I were the only non-Mormons in a middle school of over two-hundred students, I could not help perceiving the influence of Mormon tenets--especially, polygamy, and that sect's precepts regarding escatological matters--which somewhat spoiled it for me. I kept "reading into it": seeing it through the eyes of a young woman who was being forced to adjust to not being a man's only wife the best she could, having no choice in the matter. I kept wondering if the novel was a theological exercise for the author, who is, in fact, a Mormon. For those who would not bring such personal "baggage" to it, enjoy: it is a decent afternoon's read, especially, if you like fantasy love stories.

you can't help but get emotionally involved
October 26, 2009

This is truly one of the better books I've read, as far as how the story just captures your attention and emotions and sucks you in. The plot was unique, thought-provoking, and thrilling. I agree with others who've said the beginning can be a bit slow and there is a long stretch where you may be tempted to put it down... but don't! Trust me/us, it picks up and from then on, you'll be hooked. In retrospect, I see why that part was important to the storyline and what was happening to the character(s). It's such an interesting concept and really leaves you pondering the possibilities and what choices you would have made if you were in the characters' shoes. I really hope SM makes this a series! Twilight saga was great, but this was more mature and deeper, I think... aimed a bit more at an adult audience, though would still be a good read for young adults.

Different
October 05, 2009

The Host was different from anything I've ever read. I loved it! I hope Stephanie writes a series because there's alot more to be told! It was one of those books that you can't put down and the more you read the more you want it to go on and on. Just like the Twilight series!
