The Art of Racing in the Rain

Enzo is different from other dogs: a philosopher with a nearly human soul (and an obsession with opposable thumbs), he has educated himself by watching television extensively, and by listening very closely to the words of his master, Denny Swift. Now, on the eve of his death, he takes stock, recalling all he and his human family have gone through—and the difficulties they still face—and decides to make a heroic attempt to give them what they need the most. Heart-wrenching, deeply funny and touted by NBC’s Today Show, CBS’s Early Show and Starbucks’s Book of the Month club alike, Garth Stein’s dog’s-eye-view novel The Art of Racing in the Rain is a story of family, love, loyalty and the human comedy...as only a dog could tell it.

This was a very well written book, a true page turner. It is a must read for anyone who has ever loved a daog, and those who have not will want to love one.

Garth Stein is brilliant

Needless to say, I love this book. You truly believe you are listening to the thoughts of a dog. I am so sorry Enzo didn't live to be with Zoe again and celebrate their triumph. The ending though is masterful.

This brought back such wonderful memories of my beloved Bandit. There is some serious philosophy imbedded in the thoughts of Enzo. This is a beautifully told tale that needs to be shared.

This was one of the best books I've ever read and I'll loan it out very carefully. Enzo was such a special dog in so many ways. Such a tender story about love and the relationship between owner and pet. Just amazing! You'll laugh, you'll cry and never forget this book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves animals and even those who haven't liked animal stories before.

Enzo emotes

Anyone who has ever interacted with a dog and watched their expressions knows there is so much wisdom locked behind their chocolate pudding eyes. Enzo may not be able to speak, or hold a pencil, but he tells a story of life, adversity, and reminds us "the car goes where the eye goes". We will never win by looking back, but if we look ahead, accelerate and hold steady we will win! I loved this book. I wish I could distribute copies to everyone I know.
