The Other Queen

When it comes to unputdownable historical fiction about royalty, Philippa Gregory is the queen of all she surveys. Now the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Other Boleyn Girl and The Boleyn Inheritance welcomes Mary, Queen of Scots into her court in The Other Queen. Fleeing from Scottish rebels, Mary trusted her cousin Queen Elizabeth’s promise of sanctuary—only to end up imprisoned in the home of the newlywed George Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury, and his wife, Bess. Will the plans for escape, rebellion and revenge swirling around Mary destroy them all? Tackling perhaps Gregory’s most eagerly anticipated royal subject to date, The Other Queen is a novel every bit as passionate and perilous as its indomitable, doomed heroine.

I love historical novels. This is an interesting story told from the viewpoints of different characters. It is intriguing to see how people see the same events from different perspectives. As always, I enjoy seeing the characters strive to accomplish their goals under different sets of social more's. A worthwhile read!

I always learn something from reading historical fiction. Not only do I learn background facts about the era, but the characters come alive and allow you to understand them and their motivations in a much more personal way than you would in a textbook. Phillipa Gregory does an exceptional job. Have enjoyed her Boleyn books as well.
