From the author of The Alchemist comes this powerful examination of innocent dreams quashed by success and fame. Paulo Coelho’s breathtaking The Winner Stands Alone unwinds over 24 hours at the Cannes Film Festival.
Igor is a highly successful and influential Russian entrepreneur who’s more than willing to plunge into the depths of darkness in order to win back his ex-wife, Ewa. Believing their love affair was ordained by God, Igor once told Ewa he’d be willing to destroy worlds in order to get her back—and he stands by his word. Against a glimmering backdrop of producers, actors, has-beens and hangers-on, this is a profound meditation on how personal power and innocent dreams are manipulated or undone by success.

While "The Winner Stands Alone" had its entertaining moments, it was overall disappointing. Highlights were learning about the behind-the-scenes goings-on at fashion shows. Now I understand why models walk that way.
